Mine exploration is a great way to learn something about the slate mining history of North Wales. A trip into any mine will lead you to forgotten places where both men and boys worked in a by-gone generation. Artefacts are in abundance in most mines, tools and equipment left in place as the workers left it the day that the mine closed. There are a great number of mines for you to choose from but they are all in North Wales. Unlike caving, mine exploration is far less claustrophobic because the spaces were big enough for people to walk and work, whereas caves are just channels worn out by water. If you are thinking about going caving but are not sure, try mine exploration first and get your underground head in gear.
Great for a family day out with a difference or as part of a school residential trip.
